Many of FromSoftware’s games are illegal. They require calm, patience, and quick reflexes, as any wrong move or panicked action can – and often does – result in a short death. So you would think that as you explore FromSoft’s games, it would be a piece of cake to utilize every tool in your arsenal. But YouTubers ymfah made Dark Souls 3 so much more difficult by limiting his in-game movement to anything but walking.

ymfah is a YouTuber who regularly uploads silly “Gimmick Run” videos to FromSoft games such as: one in which he only used guns bloodborne. Earlier this month he released a video in which he did the unlikely: beating Dark Souls 3 without leaving. Certainly there is still movement. ymfah used various exploits and mechanisms to get around, including the TearDrop bug to bypass Death Boxes and the Dash-like Quickstep ability the bandit knife. But otherwise, and he even went so far as to turn off his left analog stick, Ymfah spent a lot of time reaching out to himself Dark Souls 3the last boss.

It’s a ridiculous feat in practice. ymfa selected the thief class for the Bandit Knife, which not only has this fast weapon skill, but also performs fast, forward-moving slashes. In addition to the dagger, the thief also starts with a short bow that resets the position of your camera and character when aimed.

After some parameters have been set – such as B. no keyboard or stick movements and no button remappings – ymfah started spamming the light attack and fast step skill to move forward, focus on enemies and aim the bow to turn around and to try to avoid unnecessary fights along the way. That last part was a hopeless impossibility that ultimately resulted in many, many deaths. If this sounds hella extra, that’s because it is.

ymfah told kotaku via Discord messages where inspiration came from a similar barrel he performed with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim about a year ago.

“I like to challenge myself with interesting ideas,” said Ymfah. “More specifically, I like solving challenges like puzzles. I set a strict goal, I plan ahead using the knowledge of the game, and when I encounter an unexpected hurdle, I try to overcome it with new and interesting ideas. I’m on PC so I used the Steam Controller settings to disable my left stick. It wasn’t really necessary since I had practice with this no-walk Skyrim and then did not touch the stick.”

One of the hardest things about this run, Ymfah said, was recreating the TearDrop bug, which turns you into a floating ember of fire after exploiting it Tears of Denial spell, which saves you from fatal damage. More difficult than that, however, was the navigation Dark Souls 3‘s areas. ymfah remarked that this run killed him hundreds of times especially that hard Slave Knight Gael Boss can be found in Filianore’s Rest and The Cathedral of the Deep.

“Most difficult area apart from that [Tears of Denial] The defiled capital would run Cathedral of the Deep and Irithyll of the Boreal Valley,” Ymfah told us. “It was a nightmare navigating these areas with so many enemies to fight. That was before I got this hidden body and slumbering ring Combo.” Here, ymfah refers to two items that make it harder for enemies to spot you when used together.

Ymfah has only completed this grueling run twice, but he plans to give it a try elden ring. It all depends on whether he can find a specific movement skill that falls from a Night Cavalry in Caelid’s fire Dragon Cart Region.

“I’ll be interested in doing something similar for elden ring for sure. Bloodhound step should make things easier,” concluded Ymfah.
